My husband 65 , had PSA test in mid December result 12.7 , DRE thought bit enlarged , MRI 30 Dec results pirad 5 abnormality in left hemi transition zone of the prostate , volume 31cc, density 0.41 ng/ml/cc . biopsy 11 Feb , nothing since , phone call off nurse mid Jan when arranging biopsy said biopsy results can take up to 2 months . We don’t know what to think of all these statistics , feel no one is helping us we are completely in the dark . Is this a low or high PSA?  Is Pirads 5 always cancer ? Should we be waiting this long for results ? Any opinions greatfully received . I’ve been loitering on here for a couple of weeks now reading and pondering . Any help gratefully received

Hi Loobjo,

I'm sorry that your husband is having prostate problems but it's lovely that you have joined the site to support him. Welcome to the forum.

Your husband's prostate is about normal size. The MRI score of 5 unfortunately means means the suspicious area found is highly likely to be prostate cancer. His PSA is elevated.  The biopsy result will shed far more light on his exact condition. It will show whether or not he has cancer and indicate how aggressive it is.

According to our site:

The results will show whether any cancer was found. They may also show how many biopsy samples contained cancer and how much cancer was present in each sample.

It can take up to two weeks to get the results of the biopsy, but it can take longer in some hospitals. Ask your doctor or nurse when you're likely to get the results.

I know how scary and frustrating the diagnosis process is. Try and take one step at a time. Two months does seem a long time to get his biopsy result, but looking on the bright side, perhaps nothing to untoward was found?

Please keep us updated and we will help you.

Best of luck with the biopsy results.
