Good sign?

Hi All,

A bit of background,

56 years old. 4 weeks on from the RARP.  Gleason 3+4 T3a Lost left hand nerves but saved the right hand side

Had UTI then epididymitus infection from practically the start of recovery.

Swelling of the testicles now gone but still signs of the infection.

Had very poor urine stream until lots of dried blood flakes were dispatched in the urine over a few days (5 days ago).

Can sit reclined for hours without weeing but as soon as I move, stand, walk, etc the leaks begin, so a bit frustrating but early days.

This morning I woke up at 5am needing to go the toilet but with what I would normally, pre-op, call a semi.

This is the largest I have seen my penis since it went into hiding post op!

Is this a good sign in regards to being to get erections or near erections for sex? Or is this a normal sleep time occurrence for most? I am a bit confused over the penal rehab and erectile disfunction conversations. Should I being asking my GP or the Urology dept about ED referrals, as my next appointment is another 8 weeks on? How soon should this be?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi, Tony

Thanks for the update, mate.

Your incontinence levels seem normal. I was told that most men are dry again about 6 months post-op.

I had non-nerve sparing RARP almost three years ago. I was told that I would never have a natural erection again, and up to now that has been the case.

However I was sent to the ED clinic about five months after surgery and prescribed Invicorp penile injections which work well.

I have found that whilst having a poo I get a semi. How strange I thought, but apparently it happens to a lot of blokes. I've recently noticed that during the night, I've started getting a bit 'pee proud'. I'm being positive and hoping that both these toilet induced semis, are signs of better times ahead.

Many recommend using pumps for penile rehabilitation. Research says it helps but to what degree seems debatable. I haven't tried them, I'm useless at DIY.

Here's an interesting video by Dr Scholz on penile atrophy and rehabilitation. He doesn't mention pumps at all.

I doubt whether I'll be adding atrophy to my penis cabinet this season.🏆

Thanks Adrian,

Thanks for the link, I shall read it in a few minutes. Would you say it is a good sign or just a normal occurrence not related to potential sexual function?

I think it's got to be a good sign. I read that being pee proud is caused by the bladder pressing on certain penile nerves. Which to me sounds promising, apart from that, any swelling causing increased blood flow to your penis must help.

Remember pre-op, nature had a wonderful service plan for your penis. Most men have many nocturnal erections which keeps Percy healthy. After surgery these often stop. Basically any self induced penile rehabilitation is trying to make up for this.  I think you'd have to do a hell of a lot of pumping to replace 'nature's helping hand'
