Post Surgery/RT

Hi all.

Had my consultations recently, both for surgery and RT, and really still not sure which way I will go. Not thinking of AS, as this worrys me more.

If any of you out there can share your experiences of both that may be helpful at this point. I am not rushing into anything, but I would really appreciate any information about pist surgery, recovery time and leakage and also anything like stricture issues. This is something the consultant warned me about. I really felt he was trying to steer me away from surgery, alerting me to all the negatives.

If anyone out there could also share their RT experienced too that may help also. I may be asking a lot, but I am so confused about the choices right now.

Joking and typos apart, mate. Radiotherapy or surgery? Is probably the most asked question on here The outcomes for both treatments are very similar. There is no definitive answer to which is best. I'll try and find a few conversations on the subject and attach links to them.

Hi Richard

The options given to me were RALP or AS, I opted for RALP and had the op in December 2024. I was incontinent post op and it took about a year to regain full control, I wore Tena pads during this and they were fine. I suffered with a urethral stricture and I’m still self catheterising every few days, but have got used to doing this.

My surgery was nerve sparing and so I have been lucky enough to regain erections.

Everybody’s recovery is different, some people are continent after the catheter is removed, others take several months and others never regain control. Take your time to gather as much information as possible and that will help you to make the choice that’s best for you.

Hi Richard,

I have had surgery that was an immediate failure in terms of the PSA continuing to rise so I had to have salvage RT so can see both sides of the argument.

I can give you my take on the two paths if you would like.

Have you been offered Hormone deprivation therapy and do you know your gleason and grade group scores and the results of the MRI?
