Cyproterone Acetate and Venlafaxine

At our last visit to Oncology in October we saw a Specialist Nurse and she recommended Cyproterone Acetate to treat the side effects of my Hormone Treatment. When I spoke with my GP he explained that the protocol is for Oncology to start the treatment and then for the GP to continue it under their direction. As a compromise and after some research he prescribed Venlafaxine. I was taking 37.5mg twice a day for a few days but it was making me so nauseous (saying goodbye to my breakfast yesterday) and interfering so much with sleep that I stopped it yesterday. I slept normally last night (three trips to the loo) and was incredibly tired when I woke this morning. Came into work as normal but suddenly hit with a huge downer out of nowhere. Feeling nearly to the point of tears for no apparent reason.

Has anyone had experience of a) Cyproterone Acetate as a treatment for hormone side effects after two years of treatment? b) The protocols for prescribing it. c) Venlafaxine and its effects.

Thanks in advance.

Hello , I don't know much about the Cypro but I have a very long history of mental ill health. None of the SSRI drugs worked for me eg Prozac. At one point I was put on Venlafaxine which is an SSNI drug. I don't want to frighten you but it destroyed maybe 6 months of my life leading me to behave completely out of character , hurt people , break off an engagement and even get into a fight which was unheard of for me. I know they always say it but in this instance DO NOT drink alcohol with this drug. In the end I was diagnosed bipolar ( needed mood stabilisers not anti depressants) .
I'm not sure why you were given this drug as it must have different uses. I can't remember what dose I was on. But in my case a very dirty drug .
Best wishes
Chris
