The initial androgen deprivation therapy of monthly zoladex injections and daily casodex failed to provide any significant effect after the first 3 months of starting therapy. Which meant that the cancer was shifting to castration resistance.
My father also started having urinary retention and bleeding during urination. Later on it was told that it was due to bleeding from the prostate which had invaded the urinary bladder. 5 sessions of palliative radiotherapy was given. After which my father almost went into a sedentary state. He was lethargic all the time, stopped eating. Was vomiting on anything given to him.
After about 2 months, the doctor has now shifted him to Abiraterone 500mg once daily. He said he will check the PSA later and modify the dosage if needed. I wanted to know is it normal for abiraterone to be started at 500mg once daily? As wherever I read it is written that standard dose of abiraterone is 1000mg once daily taken on an empty stomach.
Anyone with any experience on this?
