Lymph drainage

i have cancerous lymph’s in the groin causing swelling in the pubic area and obvious knock on swelling in parts I’d rather not mention. There is nothing here in France to drain this areas and relieve pressure so that the embarrassing swelling subsides. Does anyone know of a place in the UK used to lymph node issues caused by the spread of cancer who could help. Private or NHS but must be good. Thanks

I don't think there is any treatment for it. Lympodema in the feet and legs can sometimes be relieved by lymph draining massage but it doesn't solve the problem and I don't think that it could be done in the groin area. People with lymphodema due to heart failure are often given water tablets but these don't work if the swelling is due to other causes.

So what do I do Lyn?

Ask whether there are any lymphodema therapists in your area that could teach you how to massage / manually drain some of the fluid yourself? Important to look after your skin as well to avoid infection/ cellulitis

I asked my surgeon about the post-operative risk of lymphoedema, having had several pelvic lymph nodes removed during my surgery. He said it was 3%.

I had a shock this week, when I discovered I had swollen feet. However, I checked the pedometer on my phone and it said 15,000 paces, traipsing all round Hamburg.

Pleased to say, back home the swelling has gone down.

Still breathing, then.

Best of luck with your condition, Spartacus.

Cheers, John.

Hello-have you had a definitive diagnose of cancer having spread to lymphnodes?(This is crucial info needed to determine whether or not you can be treated with MLD)..

Yes he does, so although no massage can be done directly in the groin area, I was thinking that a therapist may be able to teach him a technique to reduce the swelling in his penis a bit?

The bigger question is whether he can access a qualified lymphodema therapist in the depths of France where his nearest oncology centre is two hours away :-(

Do you fancy a trip to France, BD - my guess is that you would have very little competition?

I don’t know whether you have seen this article from the Mail on line. It may be of interest.

Bazza - maybe you could contact the lymphedema support network - they have a telephone support line - https://www.lymphoedema.org/

At least one of our members has had Lutetium 177 privately abroad and when he last posted was doing well. Unfortunately, it is very expensive. I am sure it will become gradually available in due course on the NHS but Bazza might benefit from it now. It does require you having a preliminary PSMA scan to see whether you will be suitable, about 8% of men are not.  (see Notabene's profile/bio).

Hi Bazza

I don't know where in France you are but there are many Thermal Sulphur baths in the Pyranees.

One in particular at Les Thermes de Luz, Saint Sauveur advertises as specialising in the treatment of Lyphadema. Most of the Thermal Spas are set up to receive and treat French people sent by the Medical authorities. My neighbour comes down from Paris for 2/3 months to go for treatment at the Thermal baths.

I'm not sure this helps but I would try it, it does no harm.

Paul
