Cialis, Viagra and now Avanafil

Hello again!

So I'm almost 4 months post RP and definitely recovering very well. Incontinence still there but improving and continuing with my pelvic floor exercises.

Was given daily Cialis about 2 weeks after catheter removal but that caused leg/shoulder pains so was told to stop. Viagra was next and I took about 8 tablets in total, I would say it gave me 50% erections but not really enough for penetration. Nurse has now prescribed Avanafil for me to try. I know it's still early days and I know it can take 1-4 years to get back to normal or it might not, but has anyone gone through something similar in trying these different PDE5 pills for ED?

Thank you.

Jeff

Some work better than others for different men. We have found Levitra works better and quicker than Viagra but the side effects are slightly worse. It is all trial and error until you find something that works.

There are four PDE5 inhibitors - the one you haven't tried yet is Vardenafil (Levitra).

They have different effectiveness in different people, so you need to find the one that works best for you. The problem is that none of them are just PDE5 inhibitors, which is what you really want. They are also PDE1, PDE6, and PDE11 inhibitors to varying degrees, which you don't want. These cause side effects in other parts of the body in some people. It can be a question of finding the one with least side effects if you are prone to them.

Daily low dose 5mg Cialis/Tadalafil is the preferred one in your situation, which is probably why you were started on that one first. This is because it is long acting and a daily low dose gives continuous dosing. A secondary effect of PDE5 inhibitors is improving blood flow in the flaccid penis which helps protect it in the absence of frequent erections. Tadalafil provides this continuously, whereas the others are all too short acting to be of any benefit here. If 5mg daily Tadalafil gave you unacceptable side effects, I would suggest trying 2.5mg daily before giving up on it.

Avanafil (Stendra, Spedra) is the fastest acting - quoted as 15 mins, but like most things, activation time varies between men.

As others say , a little too early to hope for too much , but good that you are trying your options. I would try and stick with Cialis for the reasons above and it works wonders for me. Try taking it at bedtime so the symptoms aren’t so noticeable. And as Lyn said , get a pump and make it your new best friend for the next couple of years ok

Thank you all once again for your responses, Avanafil seems to work best for me but I might ask and try Levitra so that I have at least tried all four.

I like the idea of 2.5mg low dose Cialis and taking before bedtime, thanks Chris.

Pump already in the en suite and using almost everyday to keep him primed!

Regards

Jeff
