50mg sildenafil as event dose with 2.5mg daily dose of tadalafil?

Do you think my GP will prescribe me with some Viagra (sildenafil) for occasional use whilst I am also taking 2.5mg of tadalafil daily? (Can’t be bothered with the hour wait for an appointment only to be told no chance)

I need a bit of a psychological boost and I’m hoping that taking some might give me just that , I have tried upping the dose of the tadalafil to an event size dose - 10mg but it didn’t work and the negative side effects lasted for ages (heartburn and muscle ache). I can cope well with the 2.5mg daily as part of my rehab. I’m thinking that as the effect of the Viagra erection wise is shorter lived the side effects may also be ? (Will obviously not take the daily dose when I take the 50 mg of sildenafil)

It’s been nine months since the RP and I realise it’s still early days as recovery goes but I figure giving it a go won’t do any arm and if it does work it would cheer me up no end

Thanks

I don't know. I also don't know how many days you should stop the tadalafil for if you take an event dose of sildenafil? I think they take a few days to clear your system and you do not want heart trouble.

Naturally don't take medical advice from me. I'm just telling you what I would do. I'm not saying it is medically sound, safe or even ethical, but rather than get into a debate with your GP I would get some sildenafil from an online pharmacy, stop the tadalafil and after two days experiment with the sildenafil for a couple of weeks. If it does not suit you just go back to daily tadalafil. If it does suit you then maybe you won't need the daily tadalafil at all. Then you can talk to you GP about what works for you, and get an NHS prescription.

As it happens I get heartburn with all the pde5 inhibitors, and it lasts a couple of days after even a small dose. So don't expect miracles but you may get lucky.

NHS prescribing guidance is that a man cannot have both. However, our ED nurse did write to the GP requesting that he prescribe viagra alongside the cialis and that continued for a number of years. He doesn't have cialis any more but does get prescriptions for caverject, viagra and levitra which is almost unheard of, I think.

I have to say though that before you ask about viagra, worth trying again with the cialis - an event dose is 20mg not 10mg 🤦‍♀️

Follow up thought ... why are you having to prepare yourself for battle with the GP? Have you not been referred to an ED clinic?

You can get 50 mg tablets of viagra over the counter at any pharmacy. I used to have 5mg of tadalafil daily then 50mg of viagra for events and it worked really well. However I'm not a doctor and I didn't get any unwanted side effects from tadalafil.

my GP is very reluctant  to help in anyway, he wouldn’t prescribe me with a vacuum device I had to buy that myself, they won’t refer me to an ED clinic and it took me three attempts to get him to agree to prescribe the daily dose.

That is so frustrating to read! Which area of the country to you live in? I will check the relevant CCG guidelines.

I also hesitate to say it's OK to take both, but the urologists I work with sometimes all seem to think it's OK.

PDE5 inhibitor side effects are in two categories. The most common ones are those which are drug specific and switching drugs can solve, and the less common ones are inherent in all PDE5 inhibitors. Heartburn (acid reflux) is unfortunately in the second category, because your esophagus and lower esophageal sphincter (which closes off the top of the stomach) are both smooth muscle contracted using PDE5, so PDE5 inhibitors can stop them working as well. This is not usually a problem, but is much more likely in men who get acid reflux anyway. Acid reflux over a long term can become a serious problem, so you might want to get this investigated if you do get it regularly anyway.

The muscle pain some people get is a Tadalafil-specific side effect, and this is because Tadalafil is also a PDE11 inhibitor. Sildenafil/Viagra and Vardenafil/Levitra don't inhibit PDE11. (Rather little is published about Avanafil/Spedra, so I don't know in that case.)

I was prescribed Viagra and Tadafil to take together for an "event". It worked for a while but alas not anymore. I now take Tadafil and Caverject injection together with some small ( pun intended) sucess.

Injections gave me the psychological boost when I was at your stage of recovery. Injecting the old boy isn't as bad as it sounds and the results are well worth it in my opinion.

As for the GP, I had similar issues so used an online pharmacy to get sildenafil which is cheaper than viagra.

Could you bypass your GP and get a referral to the ED nurse?

Kev.

Personally I'd speak with my Oncologist and ask them to refer me to Urology.
