Newly Diagnosed !!!!!!

Good afternoon, I was diagnosed with Terminal Prostate Cancer at the end of June. I originally had an appointment at the hospital to have a Bladder Scan to check its function following my Stroke/Brain Radiation Treatment causing Nerve Damage leaving me a long term catheter user. My Urology Consultant noticed something large pressing onto my bladder and investigated further to reveal the inlarged Prostate. Following this I had a biopsy which confirmed "Cancer" which had unfortunately "Spread"  My original PSA came back "1000+" & the consultant was very concerned at my first appointment I started HRT straightaway and 2wks later it came back at "50" with the consultant seeming much calmer then at my following appointment it was 4.2/3. Shocked was an understatement really big time!!! The consultant told me "you will be fine" I have heard this before when I had my Stroke in 1998 & too say life has been a "rollercoaster" since would be a an "understatement big time" I am now awaiting my next appointment with my consultant in October to see how the HRT is continuing to work but "life carrys on regardsless" I am a "fighter" & I will continue "fighting" all the way.

Hi S. Hartnett,

So sorry that you have had such a sudden and shocking diagnosis.  It must be hard to take it all in.  As you say, you have been living a "Rollercoaster" ride.  I hope you will continue to find the strength to "fight" on.  But please use the support services that are available.  You don't have to 'fight' this on your own.

Take good care of yourself.

Hi Jedsee.

Many thanks for your quick post it's very much appreciated. Yes I have had to fight the Brain Hemorrhage/Stroke that I had in 1998 in Spain on a family holiday. I was have had deviating news constantly since then so this is nothing new. It's great to know that there's help & much needed support on this wonderful site thank you very much. Steve.

Sorry to learn how you have been so unlucky and now with advanced PCa. I hope HT of one form or another restrains your cancer for a long time and there are a few other systemic treatments that may be employed as and when needed.

Hi Old Barry.

Many thanks for your reply, yes fingers crossed that both HRT's keep doing the business for now and the future. I'm a strong believer in keeping both body & mind busy will hopefully give me a fighing chance in the long run. This has kept me in good condition to the present day.

Thanks.

Steve.

Hi Steve,

I can’t begin to understand what a shock this must have been for you after all you've been through. We all go through it when diagnosed but being diagnosed as Terminal must have been truly awful for you. However you are obviously a real fighter and I am sure you will continue to battle against this awful disease. It sounds like you are mentally strong as well which helps enormously, staying positive and having fun I have found certainly helps me to get through it. Maggies has also been a fantastic support to me on both in a practical and emotional sense…if you find yourself struggling at any point it might be worth going along to one of their centres.

All the best for the future.

Derek

Hi Decho.

Many thanks for your reply yes I think we all went numb but I dusted myself down & rolled my sleeves up and said "bring it on" I have already beat the odds ones so I am ready to go again. Do you know if there is a Maggie's in my area "South Birmingham" Thanks Steve.

Im not sure TBH Steve but you will find a list of locations here…
https://www.maggies.org/

you can just pop in anytime for a coffee and to speak to a support worker and they can advise on what groups are available. In My Maggies Centre in Fife all the staff are brilliant…we even have the ex. CNS lead for Urology which helps enormously when it comes to practical advice. I am not sure if all Maggies are as good but you won’t know until you try it.

you can also phone the specialist nurses on this site who are very knowledgable and supportive.

Hi Decho.

Many thanks for your info I have just checked on Maggie's website but the nearest centre is in Coventry which is to far for me to get to unfortunately. I'm happy to just give & receive help and support on this great forum. Yes I will contact the specialist nurses on the site as & when required Thanks Steve.
