My dad started Hormone injections 5 weeks ago. The past two days he's been itching all over. Mainly his head arms and hands. Is this a common side effect or should we be concerned? Thanks

Hi - I was on Prostrap for 3 years and itching was never a side effect I encountered (hot flushes and various aches and pains were....), and its not one I can recall seeing on other peoples threads from vague memory! - though that's not to say it definitely can't be one :). Might be worth a quick chat with one of the specialist nurses - see the "Get Support" tab at the top of this page.

What treatment is he on?  I was on Zoladex for 3 years and I experienced terrible itching many times after each implant.  It was worst on my back but struck other places too.  I actually scratched so hard I drew blood a couple of times.  I tried taking an antihistamine but it didn't have much effect.

Thank you.

I've done lots of Google searching but couldnt find it as a side effect. He is having the hot flushes and tiredness but I understand are fairly normal.

Will definitely try the nurses option, thank you :)

I'm not 100% as he's only had the one injection and I wasn't with him.

He is very much the type who doesnt ask many questions as he doesn't want to know, that's his way of dealing with it.

He has his first appointment with the cancer treatment centre regarding radiotherapy soon so I will find out then.

Thank you for your reply though, at least I know that it may very well be a side effect and not something else. He has drawn blood on his hand also!

:)

itching / rash is a known side effect but usually just around the site of the depot (injection). The patient information sheet says that in the case of severe itching, rash or breathing difficulties you should speak to the medical team. It is rare but possible to be allergic to the injection.

Thank you. He had it over a month ago though and he's only been itching the past few days so I can't see it being an allergic reaction? I will definitely ring tomorrow and see what they say.
