Hi Radar,

My wife had breast cancer which metastasised to her bones including vertebrae. She was offered vertebroplasty for several vertebrae. As I understood it (18 years ago) they inject a polymer, polymethyl methacrolate, into the vertebrae to stop it crumbling and strengthen the vertebrae. She had it done on several vertebrae. It was under a general anaesthetic. That was in the cancer centre in Vancouver, Canada. We had a separate oncologist for chemo, a separate radiotherapy oncologist and a separate orthopedic specialist who did the procedure for cancer patients. It certainly helped reduce her back pain and give strength to her frame.
I guess vertebroplasty is a treatment offered to various cancer sufferers, not just breast cancer, who have weakened vertebrae. That's all my knowledge.

It was an option and recommendation made to us, but in the end we made the decision as whether or not to go ahead with it. I look back and think it was positive for my wife's quality of life at the time. But like any procedure there are risks to it. At this point I would suggest a through discussion with the surgeon who would do the procedure.
I hope that helps.
Mike
