Cheers Bri. 🍻

I see you've been here for 12 years! If anyone deserves a pint it's you.πŸ™‚

We once lived in your neck of the woods. I proposed to my missus in the Magdalen, in Donny market place. Romantic fool aren't I. πŸ™„ We've still got lots of friends and relatives in the area.

Cheers Brian,

Always nice to have a pint with a Donny lad. I’m up early, woken up again in hot HT sweat and missus is snoring her head off, she must have been on the wine again. Have they finished those roadworks yet on the A1 by you?

In a different lifetime I used to live in Barnsley. Yes, I know it isn’t Donny but it is in the same vicinity, on the same latitude sort of. I remember once going to the local, to escape the then girlfriend for a couple of hours.
Wow, they don’t half take their pub quizzes seriously around there. As it was quiz night I decided to have a go. Now, unknown to me it wasn’t a game for small groups, couples, individuals intstead it had morphed into one side of the pub against the other in fierce rivalry at that.

I’m nowhere near being a serial quiz winning machine but then again I can occasionally get the odd question right on University Challenge, anyway, unfortunately, on this night I just knew all the answers and I won the quiz 😳, ooops.  Then when I went to the toilet they wouldn’t let me out again! 😱. The local meathead was stood in the doorway blocking my exit! You see, that’s what happens, that’s just what happens when the only beer in town is John Smiths.

I also remember the shop around the corner was just like Arkwright’s from ‘Open all Hours’, Except it wasn’t Arkwright or Granville, it was the ‘Mojo’ woman. She’s called the Mojo woman because she used to sell sweats called Mojos (they were a bit like Opal fruits). Mind you just like Arkwright you could buy anything and everything in that small shop.
Didn’t work out in the end between me and the lass from Barnsley, a shame but really I had a narrow escape there πŸ€”.

Phil - it’s encouraging to learn about your son’s Japanese experience. I hope mine similarly makes the most out of his opportunity. Keep battling the chemo, nearly through it 😬.

Adrian - your grandson’s team doing well, I’m envious it must be a joy to watch. But, if they’re playing on a sloping pitch it’s only fair to switch over at half time.

Anyway cheers, it’s a cup of tea actually.

I've just found an old youtube clip from a pub in Donny.

It's hilarious and so are a lot of the comments.😁

In our virtual pub, I suspect most of the clientèle would be like the old fella, who seems unsure whether he needs a pee or not.

Hi guys. Just popping my head in to see who’s around. Wish I could taste the beer and wine as I’d have a pint of Ghost Ship or a nice Riocca. The old metal mouth is really hanging on this time. The missus is out with work girls so gotta find some food but when you don’t fancy anything you lose your appetite too. I might just have a cuppa soup.

I’m pretty resigned to not eating out till December unless I have to. We have got a wedding next weekend and I just hope I’m ok as I have my 7th chemo this Wednesday. I stupidly booked 2 nights in a hotel afterwards and we have 2 nights in the wedding hotel first. I feel so sorry for my missus when I’m this rough. It’s just not bloody fair. What a b****** disease this is.

Take care guys, I’ll leave a couple of pints on my tab for you guys .πŸ‘

Hi Phil.

Now the nights are drawing in, I'm off the lager and on real ale. I'm on my second Old Peculier and watching the rugby league, St Helens v Leigh

I've been reading your updates and realise how difficult things are for you. You lads on chemo have my utmost respect. I doubt I'd be coping anywhere near as well as you are.

This metal mouth thing must be awful. Does it affect even very spicy food?

My heart goes out to you mate and hope that you manage to stay strong.

User

Adrian, I like Old Peculiar and usually one of a few ales in the garage fridge along with Spitfire.

I was gonna watch Saints but instead opted for Jane McDonald in the Seychelles. Not our normal holiday but next year it might be what we need…

The metal mouth is apparently caused by the taste buds being zapped by the chemo. They say eat ice cubes whilst having the infusion. I tried but they hurt my teeth so used ice poles last time but I didn’t take enough. Everything tastes different and mostly horrible. A few things aren’t too bad like very strong cheese. Most things leave a nasty aftertaste as well so you’re forever cleaning your teeth. At its worst it makes me gag … So, lots of ice poles next time hoping it works a bit. I really do not want to gag during the wedding dinner 🀦‍♀️ next weekend.

I know the next 4 sessions are gonna be hard but I’m trying to think what it’ll be like afterwards and I feel stronger and get my taste back. Just hope I get some good time before the cancer fights back again.

Really hope you guys on curative pathways get there. Also the guys on HT for life , let’s hope the cancer stays in its cage for many years.

Take care everyone,

Phil

I only had 6 doses of chemo and that was more than enough for me. I take my littoral hat off to you Phil as you are going beyond the 6, incredible! (When I think of the poison and radiation that has pummelled my body to try get rid of the PCa and some environmentalists tit on the radio the other day ordering us not to drink alcohol unless it is served in a 2/3 pint glass! God if after all that, if I can’t enjoy a pint then really what is the point?).

I got metal mouth Phil which put me off a lot of my favorites especially my Earl Grey, except it never beat a dose of the old vindaloo πŸ₯˜πŸ₯˜πŸ₯˜πŸ₯˜!  Just keep hanging in there Phil 😬., you will do it!!

Gostship ale is very similar to the Citra ale that I love. It’s quite a unique taste - fabulous πŸΊπŸΊπŸΊπŸΊπŸΊπŸΊπŸ˜€.
Anyway, it’s the weekend, lawn doesn’t need cutting so what to do?

It’s a bit shitty isn’t it, this PCa lark? C’ est la vie.

Hi SpongeBob, I just read your Bio. Interesting that you’ve had all the treatment I’ve had albeit in a different order. You make it an interesting read. My Gleason is 9 so possibly some differences because of that.

I had the HDR Brachy , followed quickly by the normal Radiotherapy, 23 sessions, back in 2018. Then the chemo this year. I wonder if they could’ve destroyed the cancer if I’d had chemo at the beginning like they do now. No good wondering now though , just gotta get on with it.

It’s also interesting to read your comments on chemo side effects. For my next session on Wednesday I’m gonna be stacked up on ice poles and cold drinks. Also keep myself more hydrated immediately after the session.

I’ve actually gone off alcoholic drinks , partly due to thinking it was causing my trotters I had a week or so ago and partly as I’d lost the taste for it. I am soo looking forward to having my last chemo in November. Oddly enough on our 42nd wedding anniversary.

Cheers

I saw that on TV. They reckon it'll help us cut down drinking. Instead of having six pints we'll actually end up having only four. I bet the price wouldn't go down by a third. It would be similar to the Mars bar size reduction scam.

Hopefully it'll never catch on. Come to think of it, I can't remember recently, seeing anyone, male or female ordering a half.

Perhaps we should start a "Hands off my pint!" campaign. 🍺

Think you deserve another medal Phil for reading through all my bio drivvel. I actually found some solace writing the bio with updates and I used it for keeping the family informed. I just copy and pasted all updates on the family WhatsApps just to be sure that everyone knew what was happening, easier than trying to explain everything all the time in person. My dad died of cancer way back in 1984, but he never told us, choosing to suffer alone, but despite his good intentions, it was in my mind an incredibly silly thing to do - anyway I learnt from that.

Best of good luck with your next chemo Phil, you'll have it off to a tee now 😁.

My latest PSA result came in today and is <0.01, so I am over the moon, relief for the next few months at least.

All the best

Great result mate, long may it continue. Keep the < arrows flying. Will you be having a pint to celebrate?

Great PSA result SpongeBob, well pleased for you πŸ‘. Keep it up.

Your Bio is a great read and honest with your emotions. I think it helps to read other people’s Bios as it puts perspective on our own journey.

I’ve had a cough all last week and so I phoned the chemo nurses Saturday and left a message but suspect the phones aren’t manned weekends. I was worried about the lung damage chemo can cause….😬 . I’ve woke up this morning and it’s not so bad. So just waiting for my callback to see what they say. They’ll phone me anyway tomorrow for my pre-chemo check.

My boy and his lovely missus came round yesterday to give our lounge ceiling 2 coats of emulsion and also to fix up a camera by our front door . Both jobs accomplished whilst I kept out of the way. We are very lucky πŸ™‚.

look after yourselves boys πŸ‘

I hope the cough turns out to be nothing more sinister than the normal bugs that are going around at the minute Phil. Hang in there pal πŸ‘

Yes, it would be good to go out and have a few pints. Maybe in your YouTube boozer in the Village of the Damned. Made me laugh did that, it's from another universe isn't it. Brings back memories of the old days, when I would regularly see characters like that.

Fantastic result Spongebob, I just raised a can in your honour 🍺 (it's lager, not ale tonight so please accept my apologies).

Hey Phil, it's really nice to have (adult) kids round to help out with DIY jobs. My son and I recently repaired and re-roofed the shed that my late father built over 25 years ago. I've booked him to give me a hand taking down a studwork wall in a couple of weeks time. I'm looking forward to working with him.

Good luck with your chemo Phil.

Cheers everyone.

And remember, don't touch the free peanuts on the virtual pub bar, not after Adrian's comment anyway.

What a start to to weekend! Someone entered the premises at 5:30 wanting us to play poker! I called security, and Knuckles McNasty threw him out.

Nothing planned for the weekend apart from scarifying, aerating and seeding the lawn and watching the deciding England v Australia, one day match on Sunday. Oh, and the rugby league play off match. Oh and the golf's Presidents Cup. πŸ™‚ Lucky, I stocked up the beer cellar.

Have a good weekend lads and lasses.

Sounds like you’re going to be busy Adrian …

Not having a good day. Slept in till 10 and still very tired and got the dreaded metal mouth again. Managed a boiled egg for breakfast but it still tasted off…

Watched a Car SOS and now football.

Missus cutting the lawn , bless her …

cheers

Hi Phil, no I'm not busy mate. I'm sat in my suntrap in the back garden. There's been a change of plan.  It's 80 degrees, and I'm on my third Kronenbourg. I decided to treat myself and get an electric scarifier/aerator. So I'm just relaxing and waiting for delivery which will probably be middle of next week.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a bad day, mate. Let's hope things start to improve and pretty pronto.

My wife had just joined me on the garden bench, when her sister telephoned. She's gone into the house to finish the call, which will probably be about 9pm.
