Hi, I have been on Tamsulosin, Solifeacin and Finasteride for some time but still have the usual symptoms, Just had a consultant suggest I have the HoLep surgery and am now on a waiting list (1 year+) Has anyone had this performed, what was the outcome, any issues etc, thanks

I had a TURP to relieve BPH in 2017. After the op I was peeing like a schoolboy. It was 100% successful, if somewhat painful for a week or so afterwards. I am told HOLEP is less painful. One huge 'benefit' was that the post op histology revealed early PCa (G3+3) which subsequently developed during active surveillance. Without the TURP, I may have known nothing about that until it was too late. I am unsure if there is any residual tissue to test after HOLEP as the laser burns tissue away, rather than it being surgically removed as in a TURP. Perhaps someone here may elaborate on that.

Hi

I too have been on Tamsulosin, Solifeacin and Finasteride plus a catheter, plus prostatis - which resulted in pain etc. Just had Holep - Oh what a difference, all my pain gone. I can just pee like I haven't for ages.

The procedure was performed and I was discharged from hospital a few hours later with a large diameter catheter (which I couldn't feel) couple of days later catheter removed at hospital and they asked me to return for bladder scan - there was no urinary retention. Im wearing Tena at the moment (no one can see) in case of accidents but I feel so much better, no pain or discomfort.

Sorry no one has replied. I guess no one on here has had Holep, which surprises me!

Me too Dave, I was hoping for some useful insights. Maybe someone will pick up on this.

I think there are people on here who have had a TURP which I think is a similar procedure to treat the same problem (but doesn't involve a laser). Both of them remove prostate tissue so you can pee more easily so I imagine the experience would be pretty similar.

Thanks for your comments, and best of luck.

my update - taken off Solifeacin and now on Mirabegron due to causing a rash on chest and neck, although not changed much.

And going for a biopsy in march .... fingers crossed!
