Hair Loss

Hi

My other half is two weeks into his first chemotherapy and is losing his hair.  He is worried as he was told by

the nurses that it would not happen until the second cycle.  Can anyone else reassure him that this is normal.

Also any tips for hats?

Thanks

Carol

hi carol
I was just told you will loose all your hair, and as with everything we are being put through it will happen at different stages, as the treatment hits us all differently
my hair as been short for a long while but as soon as I was told going on to chemo started having it cut on a number 1, mine is thinning more
have lost the hair on my legs though, pity I cannot swim would have made me more streamlined

re hats would go into a good hat shop see what looks the best, only wear one my self if its cold (bobble hat) or raining

I lost most hair 3 weeks after 1st cycle however it was about half from my head but mainly legs, chest and bizarrely my bottom!

I also did not have to shave for 4 months. Now, 8 months on, most has grown back but as for my face only in some areas ie no moustache so I can't do movember!

There are many small side effects they don't always tell you about ( numb toes, hurting finger nails, nosebleeds to name a few) but everyone is different and some people get more or less, all I can say is for me they were all bare able and now have reduced to the funny hair but and still have numb toes.

Hope that helps, good luck with the rest of the treatment.

My father in law lost his hair almost immediately but when it grew back it was lovely and curly

Hello
I'm not on chemo and I don't know if it helps but have you heard of the Paxman Scalp Cooler. The effectively prevents hair loss (from the head) during Chemo.
Maybe you could ask your specialist before Chemo whether they have them available.

I'm just on HT and have lost most of my upper body hair but am still shaving (unfortunately)

Hope this helps.

I don't pop in as often as I used to but this was worth it to find out that Kev has a smooth Bumhttp://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif so does that mean with a good tail wind your running times have improved.
