Hi Cmacinnes, there is something not right about this - your dad should already be on the hormones. Usually, as soon as they know the cancer is advanced they start hormone treatment regardless of any further scans planned. If it was my dad I would be on the phone to the nurse specialist, the onco's secretary or the GP (or all three) first thing tomorrow morning.
Have you seen a written version of the diagnosis? The GP should have received a letter from the onco and this is often copied to the patient. Check whether the diagnosis was indeed adenocarcinoma, which is the most common type of prostate cancer. If there is no diagnosis letter ask the nurse specialist to confirm. Note though that they can only tell which type of prostate cancer it is if he has had a biopsy.
